I have recently introduced indoor gardening into my routine and lifestyle. I love everything about it! Except for the fact that they can go bad once you cut them off the plant.
Because of that, I did some research and decided to start dehydrating and drying my herbs.
There are so many ways to do this, and if you don’t have an air fryer or oven, you can still do it!
- Hang drying: Take a bunch of herbs, hang the bunch upside down in a dark and dry spot until they are dry.
- Air drying: Break the leaves off your herb(s) and lay them somewhere on a rack or tray in a dark and dry spot until they are dry.
- Oven drying: Lay your herbs on a sheet with wax paper so the herbs wont get stuck. Set your oven on its lowest setting for about 30 minutes and bake your herbs until they are dry.
- Dehydrator: Pluck leaves from your herbs and lay them out in the air fryer or dehydrator. Set your dehydrator to the lowest setting for 2-4 hours.
Are They Ready?
If you can crumble the herbs then they are ready for use or storage. If they still have moisture, let them sit longer or bake longer. Store them in little glass or air tight containers and label them and date them.
Drying herbs is one of my favorite things to do because I preserve my own food straight from my garden! This is also an amazing way to save money and a trip to the grocery store.
Let me know how it works for you!
